A project in memory of Barbara McClintock (*1902; †1992), Nobel Prize winner in Physiology / Medicine in 1983 and former scientist and researcher at Cornell University, USA.Barbara McClintock's discovery of genetic transposition or "jumping genes", i.e. pieces of genetic material that rearrange themselves in maize seedlings, is the key to how individual organisms regulate their development.

Her revolutionary discovery and unique research style were sparked by closely observing nd documenting each maize plant, studying the changes in color and texture of the pigments in the kernels and leaves. She found that some plants gained colour while others lost it and that these changes followed unpredictable hereditary patterns.

Inspired by the graphic and schematic visualizations of McClintock's research results and her sensual way of researching, the interdisciplinary artist Ella Ziegler (GER) has developed the poster edition BREAK FUSION BRIDGE CYCLE. The poster edition takes up Barbara McClintock's schematic drawings of the chromatid type of BREAKAGE FUSION BRIDGE CYCLE and the mosaic of naturally pigmented corn kernels that vary in color and shape.

The poster edition BREAK FUSION BRIDGE CYCLE is a playful invitation to collage a large two-dimensional mosaic and to create and deconstruct graphic and colour patterns. Infinite combinations of colours and contrasts, letters and words, shapes and outlines are possible.
