The poster documents Georg Ruttloff's travels worldwide using 95 postcards. Georg Ruttloff (*1903, Chemnitz; †1964) was the son of a potato wholesaler, and his parents expected him to do a commercial apprenticeship against his own will. After graduating from school in 1921, he plundered the coffers of his parents' potato wholesale business and used the money to travel from Chemnitz to Hamburg. There, he signed on as a coal carrier on a freight steamer. Until the end of the 1940s, he travelled worldwide on various freight ships and sent postcards to his parents in Chemnitz and relatives. After his travels on freight ships, where he became a well-paid steward, he settled down as a vulcanizer. Georg Ruttloff died childless in New Orleans.
