23 DUPLICATES OF AN INK STAIN
STOCKHOLM (SWE) 2013
This porcelain service was originally commissioned in China for Fredrik Gyllenborg (1698–1759), President of the Office of Mines, who joined the ranks of the nobility as Baron Count Gyllenborg. Tradition has it that the irregular clouds surrounding the heraldic shields were formed when water got on the original drawing of the shield on the outward voyage. The Chinese artists reproducing the pattern meticulously duplicated the blots of ink.
