HARVEST LINZ
Inventory of Fruit Plants in the Urban Space
ÖSTERREICH (AU) 2005
In cooperation with the Linz city gardens I transferred their precise lists of all the cultivated fruit trees and berry bushes to a map, which only shows, aside from green areas, the locations of the fruit trees. The fruit trees, a clear indication of a formerly agricultural structure of urban space, are »managed« nature and collective property at the same time. Whereas only a few years ago residents approached the authorities to ask about crop sharing, today the fallen fruit is regarded more as a nuisance. I contrast the obsolete use of the trees with the calculation of the profits in cake, juice, schnaps and finally in money. The total value is 103 389 Euros.
After my project the Green Party in Linz organises crop sharing for the people of Linz.
